NZIOB Silver Jubilee Awards for Excellence 2008

The NZIOB Silver Jubilee Awards for Excellence in 2008 are about recognising the great things that are happening in construction sites around the country and the personal excellence displayed by individuals or teams in the industry.  Entry to the Awards is not restricted to NZIOB members.

Winners of the NZIOB Silver Jubilee Awards for Excellence 2008

Davis Langdon projects over $50 million

Excellence: Richard Coupe (Fletcher Construction), as project manager for the Auckland University Business School’s Owen G Glenn Building
Highly commended: Murray Svendsen (Mainzeal project manager), Ray Bryant  (Octa’s project manager) & Chris Boss (Jasmax, project architect), for Sovereign House, a 5-story office building at Smales Farm, Takapuna.

Holcim®  projects over $15 million but less than $50 million

Excellence: Nick Page (Canam Construction project manager) & John Schermbruker (Waitakere City Council’s project manager), for the city’s new civic centre & rail bridge.
Highly commended: Richard Joseph & team (Dominion Constructors), for the Queen St footpath upgrade in Auckland; & Chris Leahy, Brett Goodall & Matt Gow Campbell (Aspec Construction), for the SkyCity casino gaming floor expansion.

Colorsteel®  Endura™  projects over $5 million but less than $15 million

Excellence: John Jonassen (Exception Management Consultants), as the bishop’s project manager for the St Patrick’s Cathedral restoration in Auckland.
Highly commended: Ivan Hatton (Hawkins Construction),for the 9-storey Ibis Hotel on
Hereford St, Christchurch.

Excellence: Graeme Earl (Mainzeal), for the Canterbury Charity Trust Hospital, where he was appointed project manager for the client, then took on dual roles after Mainzeal, where he was contracts manager, won the contract.
Highly commended: Kelvin Billett & Kayne Adams (Aspec Construction, Auckland), for the Sky Walk, Sky City, Auckland.

James Hardie Innovation Award

Winner: Paddy Molloy (NZ Strong, Auckland), for the 120m walkway across the Northern Motorway to the new Northern busway Akoranga station; and a second nomination for his work as project engineer on the Blister hangar relocation at MOTAT
Highly commended: Andrew Rolfe (Fletcher Construction, Auckland), for incorporation of innovative ideas into the construction sequences before work started on the Auckland University Business School’s Owen G Glenn Building.

The GIB® Supreme Award selected from the winners of the above five categories

Graeme Earl (Mainzeal), for the Canterbury Charity Trust Hospital, Christchurch.

NZIOB Progressive Building Young Achiever of the Year 2008

Winner: Aaron Muir (Fletcher Construction, Wellington), for the new 16 story Maritime Tower in Wellington.Finalists: Jessica Kirkwood (Brookfield Multiplex) & Elliot Bartley (Mainzeal)
