As the tide goes out on 2017, it is timely to reflect on the year that was, and to preview the year ahead. The NZIOB’s major focus in the first quarter of 2017, was the hosting of the inaugural ‘Constructing our World’ conference (www.constructingourworld.com), which demonstrated the Institute’s keen interest in showcasing global construction innovations to the New Zealand market. The twelve international speakers who presented at the event, did exactly that, with the next Constructing our World conference scheduled for 2019.
The dominant work-stream for the NZIOB in the final quarter of 2017, has been in undertaking a significant refresh of the NZIOB Awards, which will be celebrating its 25thedition in 2018. The extent of the revitalisation will be revealed in February. Along with a swath of internal projects undertaken in 2017, the NZIOB made good progress on key ‘wider industry’ initiatives throughout the year. This included; the promotion of the construction industry to our country’s youth (Industry Big Day Out - Construction), and encouraging industry innovation and research via the NZIOB Charitable Trust scholarships ($20,000 was awarded in August).
That the Institute’s profile continued to build throughout 2017 is heartening, as is the increased volume of project opportunities being offered to the NZIOB, which have the potential to add value to both our members, and the broader construction industry. Some of these future focuses are outlined in the following stories.
