NZIOB Inaugural Graduate Forum

Registrations are open for the inaugural NZIOB Graduate Forum, being held on 15 March 2022 in Wellington. The format provides graduates with the opportunity to attend a lunchtime session at which they can quiz industry guest speakers on a range of construction-related topics.

NZIOB Resene National Student Awards 2022

The NZIOB, in partnership with Resene Paints, has established an awards programme that all students in their final year of a construction-related qualification or carpentry apprenticeship are eligible to enter. Entries open on 1 March 2022.

Building Legends Leadership Development workshops

Businesses desperate to ramp up rapid testing of workers to prevent spread of Omicron are upset at the Government’s rationing of test kits. Free Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) are only available to critical businesses, when an asymptomatic worker is exposed to a positive COVID-19 case, then allowing them to skip self-isolation and continue working if they return a negative RAT.

House building boom could soon hit ceiling due to shortages of materials and workers

There may be a building boom, but a shortage of materials and subcontractors is said to be making it difficult for smaller building companies to complete projects. Registered Master Builders Association chief executive, David Kelly said that having to try to store up materials several months in advance of a job had been putting pressure on small building firms.
