Two Highly Commended and one Excellence award was presented in this category.

The first Highly Commended award was presented to the University of Auckland B507 Park West Team made up of Alun Larsen and Chris Fields from Hawkins, Ian Straka from Precon, Andre Kirstein from Beca, Chris Boss from Jasmax, and Chris Haines from Rider Levett Bucknall. University of Auckland’s Building 507 houses the Schools of Medicine and Population Health. In December 2016, the University provided a verbal brief for a new building of 20,000 square metres. Construction had to be completed within 36 months, ready for the start of the 2020 academic year. A team of 450 people worked collaboratively over 30 months to meet the deadline. The overall success of the project is testament to the positive working relationship developed between all those involved.

The second Highly Commended award was presented to the ANZ Workplace Strategy Project (Sylvia Park Tower) Team made up of David Davery from Black Interiors, Brent Thomson from The Building Intelligence Group, Andrew Tu’inukuafe from Warren and Mahoney, Lindon Jackson from Beca, and Robyn Montgomery from BBD. ANZ Raranga was central to ANZ's strategy to accommodate 900 staff from three offices in a single building on Auckland's fringe. The project involved a substantial fit-out with a compressed timeframe, requiring a fast-track delivery model. The design and procurement processes overlapped, and the building needed significant changes, both challenging the fast-track methodology. Collaboration on-site got these issues resolved, and the project was completed on time and within budget.

The Mt Eden Corrections Facility Building C Team was awarded Excellence in this category, and are also the Category Winners. The team was made up of Neville McAnnalley from Leighs Construction, Neville Clarke from WSP Opus, James Bones from Beca, Patrick Dowle from Department of Corrections, and Brett Zeiler from White Associates. This project involved constructing a multi-storey block (to accommodate 245 prisoners) in the middle of the largest remand prison in the country. Building a team capable of delivering a project of this scale and complexity was always going to be challenging. Taking a historic design, changing the delivery architect, and going on to construct the works provided additional challenges. The judges commented that the team was committed to collaboration, creating a site office to be shared by the client representative, consultants, and contractor, for the duration of the project. This collaboration ensured a well-executed project.

A few words from Anthony Leighs, Managing Director, Leighs Construction:

"I was thrilled to see Neville and his team, along with the client and design consultants, win the Interdisciplinary Collaboration award for their exceptional efforts in delivering the Mt Eden Correction Facility Building C project. There is no question in my mind that project success only comes from a great collaboration between the parties, this project was an exemplar, and to see this receive industry recognition was fantastic!"
