Medium – a new resource for creating better medium density housing

LATEST NEWS

Medium: A technical design guide for creating better medium density housing in Aotearoa New Zealand, is the latest book by architect, lecturer and author, Guy Marriage. Medium brings together design guidance, case studies and practical solutions for medium density housing in New Zealand.

While New Zealand has a shaky history of medium density design — recent changes to density rules mean greater density is here to stay. In writing Medium, Marriage hopes to shift attitudes in the New Zealand construction industry, providing guidance and practical solutions so that new townhouses and apartments are designed with the same comfort, quality, and longevity we expect from our traditional housing, and with a bigger focus on community.

To spread the knowledge shared in Medium throughout the industry, author Guy Marriage and publishers EBOSS, with the support of sponsors, have made Medium available to architects and designers free of charge.

The 240-page book has four sections, each tackling a different stage of a medium density build: Plan, Design, Build and Built. And while aimed at architects and architectural designers, it will provide a handy reference guide for building contractors and university-level students.

“Where this book is different is that it ties in the input from 30 industry-leading product suppliers with information on their materials and systems,” says Marriage.

Architects and designers can request a free copy of Medium online here.
