Every new house build produces about 4.5 tonnes of waste – it would take 30 years for a household to put its kerbside bin out once a week to generate the same waste.

Christchurch and Miami: Two building collapses, one common theme

On June 24, the Champlain Towers South condominium complex in Miami Beach, Florida, collapsed. Preliminary inspections of the rubble in Miami suggested that the structural elements of the apartment block lacked adequate steel reinforcement. There are echoes of such a tragedy in New Zealand.

Site tour of Linwood Pool: Te Pou Toetoe

On 17 June, the Southern Region Committee hosted a site visit to Linwood Pool: Te Pou Toetoe. Despite the cold weather, the site tour was well attended and enjoyed by all. The project completion date is on track, with the pools opening to the public in a few months’ time.
