Industry icons share stories and honour one of their own

Last night, a stellar line-up of construction industry icons provided their collective insight on changes within the construction sector since the turn of the century. The event was well-attended with more than 80 industry practitioners filling the room. The event concluded with the awarding of an NZIOB Honorary Membership to Peter Fehl.

Record numbers of building and construction apprentices

The number of people undertaking construction-related apprenticeships such as carpentry has skyrocketed in the last year. It was announced on Wednesday at a Holmes Construction housing project in Brooklyn, Wellington, that there are currently 20,000 apprentices studying construction-related trades in New Zealand.

Scholarships supporting tomorrow's Health and Safety leaders

Each year, Site Safe supports the construction health and safety leaders of tomorrow by awarding scholarships to complete their Health and Safety in Construction programme. The scholarship programme has been running since 2016 and has seen many successful students progress to become health and safety leaders within the construction industry.

Industry icon to be honoured at upcoming NZIOB event

The NZIOB Northern Region Committee is hosting an event to honour construction industry icon, Peter Fehl. A panel of industry peers will share stories of Peter; as well as insights into how the construction industry has changed during Peter’s career and their advice on how to survive within this challenging industry. The event will culminate with a presentation to Peter of an NZIOB Honorary Fellowship.

The NZIOB AGM was held on Tuesday 13 July, preceded by a successful site tour of McKee Fehl’s High Commission of India project, and followed by an informative presentation from CONCove’s General Manager, Bharti Raniga. At the AGM, the election of officers for the 2021-2023 National Board and Regional Committees was formalised.
