The Southern Region Committee hosted their annual quiz night on Wednesday, 12 May at The Welles in Christchurch’s CBD. The sold-out event was a great success, with teams from across the construction sector coming together for some friendly, and at times intense, competition.

The NZIOB Central Region Committee hosted a site visit to Sunset West Apartments in Te Aro Wellington on Tuesday, 11 May. This high-profile building is the first major project for Aoraki Construction, with interest in the striking building design and the new construction company contributing to a well-attended site visit event.

Entries for the 2021 New Zealand Building Industry Awards have now closed and the NZIOB is delighted to have received, yet again, a large number of impressive entries. Preliminary judging of the entries will take place next week, with the list of finalists being announced on Monday 31 May.

Following on from NZIOB’s Strategy Day in March, a post-workshop exercise was undertaken to group the ideas into a set of cohesive themes. These themes were then presented to and discussed by the National Board, and a resulting set of Strategic Goals was established.

Rosalind Archer was appointed president of Engineering New Zealand in March. One month before Archer, Michelle Grant became the first woman president of the Structural Engineering Society. And last April, Helen Ferner made similar waves at the Society for Earthquake Engineering.
