Registering for events about to become faster and easier

The NZIOB National Office staff have been busy working with our IT developer to build a new event registration system onto our existing member database. Instead of being directed to an external third-party website to register for an NZIOB event, members need only log in to the member portal, scroll through the list of events, click Register, and then the registration form will autofill with all your details. Easy!

The Auckland event involved a tour of the America’s Cup precinct (there are four syndicate bases including Team New Zealand’s).

COVID-19: More funding for schools and a boost to construction sector

The Government is releasing $214 million from the COVID-19 response and recovery fund to help schools and support construction firms facing additional costs due to the pandemic. $107 million of this has been set aside specifically for construction suppliers.

A $350 million Residential Development Response Fund is being established to support the residential construction sector and to minimise the economic impact from COVID-19. Projects will be supported through sharing some of the increased COVID-19 related risks, with the fund backing developments through Government underwrites.

Construction begins on Wellington’s first base-isolated apartment building

Victoria Lane Apartments is a $140 million mixed-use development and one of Wellington’s first major construction projects to start after lockdown. The building will include 24 base isolators, effectively separating the building structure from the ground, and will also be wrapped in a diagonal grid of steel.

Outlook for non-residential construction not all doom and gloom

According to Statistics NZ, the total value of non-residential building work consented dropped to just $365 million as the full effects of Level 4 lockdown made themselves felt. But it bounced back up to $553 million in May and $753 million in June, which was the highest level it has been for any month since April last year and up 50% on June last year.

The 37th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the NZIOB was held in Christchurch on Tuesday the 28th of July. The AGM was bookended by a tour to the Christ Church Cathedral site and a presentation on that project.
