Government fast-tracking infrastructure projects

The construction industry is fortunate to have an accord in place, being the Construction Sector Accord. Through that entity, the industry is getting clear signals from the Government, that it understands fully the importance of construction to New Zealand, and the need to get the industry moving again quickly once we move back from the COVID-19 Level 4 lockdown.

This week, the Government sent a clear signal that they are looking to accelerate large scale projects for the industry to move onto. Crown Infrastructure Partners has approached infrastructure-focused companies within the construction sector, asking them for details on what they term ‘shovel ready’ infrastructure projects, horizontal (roads, bridges, water, etc.) and vertical (schools, hospitals, etc.) infrastructure projects. The key criteria being that the projects will provide a public benefit, be of at least $10M in value, and that they can realistically be started within six-months.
