COVID-19 update for the building and construction sector

As of 11:59pm last night, all of New Zealand has moved to the Orange setting of the Traffic Light system. Keep an eye out for updated Construction Protocols and Standards on the CHASNZ website. Also, new workplace guidance is now available to help employers update their health and safety risk assessments, especially in relation to vaccination requirements.

Waihanga Ara Rau (Construction and Infrastructure) Workforce Development Council is one of six Workforce Development Councils set up under the Reform of Vocational Education to give industries greater leadership and influence across vocational education. The industry-led organisation has been established to develop and maintain a strategic view of the skills the construction and infrastructure industries require now and in the future.

Innovative solution to dire shortage of health project managers

A desperate shortage of specialised project managers could jeopardise the $10bn investment planned over the next ten years by the four Northern Region District Health Boards. To mitigate, the four DHBs and Auckland University have come up with a solution: a Master of Engineering in health project management.

A new registration and licensing regime for engineers

MBIE has announced that Cabinet has agreed to progress with a new regulatory regime for professional engineers. In order to be registered under the new regime, engineers will need to have a minimum qualification, and be subject to a code of ethics and continuing professional development requirements.

Work ramping up on ‘Accord 2.0’

The Construction Sector Transformation Plan is a three-year plan of action from industry and government to lift the performance of the sector. The Construction Sector Accord team is working hard on developing the next version of the Transformation Plan, which they are calling ‘Accord 2.0’.
