Description

The NZIOB Charitable Education Trust’s annual rugby-themed fundraising event in Wellington is confirmed for Friday 15 July, the day before Ireland play the All Blacks at Sky Stadium. The guest speaker for the event is All Black former Captain, Kieran Read.

A dominant player across the field and a master of the role of the modern number 8, former All Blacks Captain Kieran Read turned in consistently outstanding performances on the field, complemented by his leadership skills and professionalism.

The 2013 World Player of the Year and double RWC winner, Read was identified at a young age as a very good age-grade cricketer and rugby talent. He played in national Schools and age-grade teams before making his provincial debut for Canterbury in 2006 and then Super Rugby with the Crusaders and the Junior All Blacks in 2007.

Read became the 66th All Blacks captain when he led the team against Italy at Rome’s Olympic Stadium in 2012, and captained the side more than 30 times. Read’s 19 consecutive wins as All Blacks captain between 2012 and 2016, is a world record. The third Test match against the British & Irish Lions in 2017 saw Read become the All Blacks’ seventh Test centurion.

Having just hung up his boots in recent months in Japan, Read is back in New Zealand, spending quality time with his kids, and brainstorming what he plans to do next.
