Description
Join the Institute for Site Visit to the Old Choral Hall modernisation project at Auckland University.
Auckland University has embarked on an ambitious project to modernise the Old Choral Hall in the heart of the City Campus. OCH has required a seismic upgrade, heritage refurbishment, addition of a lift for accessibility, replacement of building services, installation of sprinklers throughout and a general full refurbishment of the building. The project includes the reinstatement of the portico to Symonds St. Work begun on site October 2022 with completion due Q4 2025
Designed by Edward Mahoney, The Old Choral Hall was built in 1872 in the neo-classical style and erected in the grounds of the Old Government House. The schedule 1 heritage building survives as one of the largest buildings from 19th century Auckland.
Auckland University as the client, Aspec Construction as the Contractor and Architectus and Beca as the designers will host the Institute on a site visit, to give behind the scenes look on the technical details, joys and challenges in the modernisation and restoration of a significant part of Auckland’s built environment history.
Refreshments will be served in the old Government House after that site visit to give members the opportunity to chat further with the project team.
