Industry icon to be honoured at upcoming NZIOB event

The NZIOB Northern Region Committee is hosting an event to honour construction industry icon, Peter Fehl. A panel of industry peers will share stories of Peter; as well as insights into how the construction industry has changed during Peter’s career and their advice on how to survive within this challenging industry. The event will culminate with a presentation to Peter of an NZIOB Honorary Fellowship.

The NZIOB AGM was held on Tuesday 13 July, preceded by a successful site tour of McKee Fehl’s High Commission of India project, and followed by an informative presentation from CONCove’s General Manager, Bharti Raniga. At the AGM, the election of officers for the 2021-2023 National Board and Regional Committees was formalised.

Christchurch and Miami: Two building collapses, one common theme

On June 24, the Champlain Towers South condominium complex in Miami Beach, Florida, collapsed. Preliminary inspections of the rubble in Miami suggested that the structural elements of the apartment block lacked adequate steel reinforcement. There are echoes of such a tragedy in New Zealand.
