The building and construction sector is New Zealand's fourth largest employer, accounting for 10 per cent of New Zealand's workforce, and is our fourth largest industry by GDP. The industry is responsible for delivering much-needed housing, offices, commercial buildings – the places where New Zealanders live, work and play. The success of the sector, and the quality of the buildings it produces, impacts on virtually every wellbeing indicator – social, economic, and environmental. The Minister for Building and Construction, Poto Williams states that lifting quality in the sector is at the heart of her agenda.
