A desperate shortage of specialised project managers could jeopardise the $10bn investment planned over the next ten years by the four Northern Region District Health Boards. To mitigate, the four DHBs and Auckland University have come up with a solution: a Master of Engineering in health project management. With a mix of classroom learning and on-the job training, the programme will develop specialised project managers who will play a critical role in Aotearoa New Zealand’s future health infrastructure. Four trainees are part of the first intake and the two-year pilot programme also includes scholarships for Māori or Pasifika trainees.
