2 June 2020. With New Zealand moving to COVID-19 Level 2, the sheer volume of government and industry information required to be shared with construction practitioners during the lockdown, and subsequent shifts to Levels 3 and 2, has subsided. The regularity of the NZCIC/CHASNZ update has moved to fortnightly. The latest edition summarises the current workstreams of the Construction Sector Accord, whose Steering Group continues to meet regularly, though like the NZCIC/CHASNZ and NZIOB’s respective newsletters, they have moved to a fortnightly schedule.
Current Construction Sector Accord focuses include:
- Developing advice on fair risk allocation for COVID-19 related disruptions
- Assistance to government in assessing the approximately 2,000 ‘shovel ready' project proposals received by Crown Infrastructure Partners, with a view to getting accepted projects readied for a start date no later than October 2020
- Developing strategies to bolster consumer confidence in the housing sector, so as to mitigate the extent of the forecasted slow-down for house building activity
- Ensuring that local government is aligned with the Construction Sector COVID-19 Response Plan; Phase 2 of which is to ‘restart works while keeping the workforce safe’
