Peter McGuinness Honorary FNZIOB 1947-2023

We are sorry to share the news that Peter McGuinness died on Sunday 26 November 2023.

In 2020 Peter was made an Honorary Fellow of the Institute, an honour only five others currently hold. Honorary Fellow’s are given out to people who hold positions of distinction in the building and construction industry to acknowledge the significant contribution they have made. Peter certainly met these criteria and was held in a very high regard in the industry and by the Institute.

We are thinking of Peter’s family and all those at LT McGuinness. We wanted to share a few things about Peter to help honour his life and contribution to the industry.

One of the key outcomes of the project is to review and update the current Building Information Modelling (BIM) Handbook (2019) to ensure it is current with the relevant international standards, considers any industry led process changes and includes new terminology. This project is being funded by the Construction Sector Accord through its Innovation workstream.

The NZ BIM Handbook has been the cornerstone of BIM adoption in the New Zealand construction sector since 2014. The current version was published in 2019 but as this is a fast-evolving environment, it’s in need of a refresh.

So, why is this needed and what can you expect to see in the updated Handbook?
