<p>We are sorry to share the news that Peter McGuinness died on Sunday 26 November 2023.</p><p>In 2020 Peter was made an Honorary Fellow of the Institute, an honour only five others currently hold. Honorary Fellow’s are given out to people who hold positions of distinction in the building and construction industry to acknowledge the significant contribution they have made. Peter certainly met these criteria and was held in a very high regard in the industry and by the Institute.</p><p>We are thinking of Peter’s family and all those at LT McGuinness. We wanted to share a few things about Peter to help honour his life and contribution to the industry.</p>
<p>On Friday 10 November 2023 a Site Visit for our Next Gen members from Ara - Te Pukenga took place to the Kate Valley Landfill Facility. </p><p>This was organised by Heather Huckle and the Institute's Young Professional Advisors (YPA). Adam Baxter, who is on the Institute's Southern Region Committee went along on the visit and made a few notes about the visit. </p><p>Read Adam's summary. </p><p> </p>
<p><span>Gracen Luka was awarded the NZIOB Charitable Education Trust - Emerging Leader Award and was also given a Special Commendation from the Supreme Award Judges at the 2023 NZ Building People Awards.</span></p><p><span>At the time of the Awards Gracen was the Associate Development Manager at Fletcher Living and has since moved to Australia. </span><br><br><span>We asked Gracen a few quick questions to get to know her a little better. </span></p><p> </p>

<p>The New Zealand Institute of Building and the BIMinNZ Steering Group are working with subject matter experts on a Digital BIM Guidance Project (DigiGuide). One of the key outcomes of the project is to review and update the current Building Information Modelling (BIM) Handbook (2019) to ensure it is current with the relevant international standards, considers any industry led process changes and includes new terminology. This project is being funded by the Construction Sector Accord through its Innovation workstream. </p><p>The NZ BIM Handbook has been the cornerstone of BIM adoption in the New Zealand construction sector since 2014. The current version was published in 2019 but as this is a fast-evolving environment, it’s in need of a refresh. </p><p>So, why is this needed and what can you expect to see in the updated Handbook?</p>

We have asked students studying in the built environment to prepare a ‘shark tank’ style pitch where they talk about their passion, a project, or even just themselves.</p><p>The main aim is to show our ‘sharks’ their potential and their passion for the industry. </p><p>Matt Lloyd secured one of the $2,000 scholarships at our pitch event at Victoria University of Wellington in Poneke | Wellington on 11 August. </p><p>We asked Matt a few questions to get to know him better.
