The result of a partnership between Site Safe and St John, the new First Aid in Construction course is bringing much-needed support to the construction industry, which is flagged as a high-risk industry for mental wellbeing. The course, which is the most recent addition to Site Safe’s suite of training products, is a one-day offering that will equip learners with the skills and knowledge to support their own mental health.
With a particular focus on the construction industry, attendees of the trials held in Auckland and Wellington found the information useful and said that there was a lot of value in the course. Wayne, a construction worker who participated in the Auckland trial, said that he learned a lot about the subject of mental health that he did not have much knowledge of previously. “It provided a lot more knowledge around how to identify and deal with persons in need of assistance.”
Courses are currently planned for Site Safe’s main centres in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. Further expansion into the regions is planned subject to industry demand.
