In this week’s NZCIC/CHASNZ weekly update, the key themes are 'Preparing for Level 2', and a summary of the current Construction Sector Accord workstreams, primarily being:
- Monitoring Alert Level 3 operations to understand potential financial and health and safety impacts
- Development of COVID-19 Construction Protocols for working at Alert Level 2
- Work that is underway to clarify procurement guidelines on how risk is allocated in relation to COVID-19 for future procurement activity
- Advisement that there has been over 2,000 ‘shovel ready’ project proposals received by government
If New Zealand does return to Level 2 next week (the government will announce an update on COVID-19 Alert Levels on Monday 11 May), the NZCIC/CHASNZ COVID-19 updates will move to fortnightly publications.
We are by no means out of COVID-19 and the significant impact that it has had (and will continue to have) on the construction industry and the entire New Zealand economy, however it is timely to acknowledge the positive and collaborative manner in which the industry has responded to the enormous challenges imposed upon it. The work of the Construction Sector Accord has been a key part of this, as has been the industry collaboration in producing the Construction Protocols, along with the multiple examples of associations working together to deliver webinars on topics that the industry needs information on right now.
