Trevor is a long-time Institute member previously heading up the Northland Branch - he received a Highly Commended award in the Consultants | Matanga category at this year's NZ Building People Awards for his work as Engineer to the Contract on the Multi-Sports Complex Papa Hawaiki, Kaikohe. Adam is a Site Manager at Fletcher Living and serves on both the Southern Region Committee and the Young Professional Advisors for the Institute.
Trevor and Adam shared a number of their experiences and nuggets of helpful advice for industry professionals at all levels. Key takeaways included the importance of better education around reading complex drawings, utilizing social media more for sharing insights, incorporating biodiversity into projects, mentoring the next generation, developing strong listening skills and wellbeing activities to manage stress (including hearing about the luckiest Staffy in NZ who enjoys three beach walks per day).
Trevor tells us a bit about his multi-year role to get the Papa Hawaiki project built and suggests that along with along with needing a plan to get into the role you want to be in, at the other end of your career you also need a plan to get out.
