Central Region members had a site tour of Tākina, Wellington’s Convention and Exhibition Centre, due to open in mid-2023. Tākina will offer 10,000sqm of flexible meeting and events space over two floors on Wakefield Street and is across the road from the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.

Access to digital mental health support tools for members

A reminder that NZIOB members are able to access online mental health wellbeing support tools via Clearhead. Clearhead is an online mental wellbeing website and app created by doctors and psychologists to help build self-awareness and to help members reduce stress, handle anxieties, manage their moods, sleep better, and support loved ones.

Wayne Carson wins Steel Construction NZ Chairman’s Award

Wayne Carson, managing director of D&H Steel Construction, has won the 2021 Steel Construction NZ (SCNZ) Chairman’s Award. The annual award recognises individuals who have made a significant and lasting contribution to New Zealand’s structural steel industry.
SCNZ Chair Frank Van Schaijik presented Wayne with the award earlier this month, delayed because of COVID restrictions.

Hon Dr Megan Woods becomes Minister for Building and Construction

Hon Dr Megan Woods was appointed Minister for Building and Construction in the Cabinet reshuffle on Monday, 13 June. The Prime Minister said the Building and Construction portfolio was given to Woods to consolidate housing-related portfolios in one minister.

Students try a hands-on day on the job in civil construction

A civil construction career is now on the cards for 26 female high school students after spending a day with Higgins in Palmerston North earlier this month. The event was part of the Girls with Hi-Vis (GWHV) campaign. GWHV events are held nationwide this month to help attract more young women into infrastructure careers.
