The Institute is announcing that this Friday 29 November will be the last day for long-time Home Team member Hannah Nansett nee. Keir-Smith. We are sad to see Hannah go but also happy for her to be moving on to a new work challenge. Given Hannah’s nine years of mahi at the Institute we wanted to make sure we recognise her and thank her for all she’s done. It’s hard to sum up a person’s contribution in a few words but we’ve had a go.
Hannah has been at the Institute for nine years and in that time has performed just about every role in the organisation. Her contribution to the Institute, and in turn the construction industry, has been huge.
When Hannah first started she was the sole staff member under the Chief Executive (CE) at the time, Malcolm Fleming. She performed all roles from events to operations. She worked with Malcolm over the years to hire more staff and train each of them.
“Hannah Joined NZIOB within the first few months of the Institute’s relocation from Auckland”, says Malcolm”, “I couldn’t have wished for a better team member, she shared my vision for NZIOB and we worked closely together to grow the Institute from what was a very modest position when she started in early 2016.”
In the years Hannah has worked at the Institute she has officially been in five different roles: Operations Manager, Support Services Manager, Regional Events Manager, National Events Manager and now Projects Lead.
She’s seen team members come and go, including helping to welcome a new CE (Pamela Bell) a few years back. She has become a font of knowledge when it comes to the Institute and is always generous with her time and knowledge. She’s a very collaborative teammate - always ready and willing to help other members of the Home Team with anything and everything.
Hannah has worked on a wide range of projects in her time at the Institute including website rebuilds, reworking the membership offering during covid and more recently working to establish new projects such as the Tall Stories podcast, MentorMIX and a new suite of offerings such as our Industry Insights and Light Lunch webinar series.
Hannah has gone through big life changes during her time at the Institute including having her two kids Archer and Hazel, and getting hitched to her husband Ben. After Hazel was born Hannah came back to work earlier than she had planned (after just four months) as the Institute was undergoing a time of massive change with people leaving and arriving. She was able to provide a smooth transition for team members.
When talking to our members and people who have worked with Hannah, they all give such glowing reviews which speak to her warmth and outstanding level of service.
Long-time Institute member Paul Styles brought up Hannah and sang her praises when asked about which event in the past he had the best memories from. He said, unprompted: “I met the wonderfully competent Hannah at that conference” and “That Hannah is such a credit to the IOB.”
Hannah is not only ‘wonderfully competent’ but also very talented, open, loyal, intelligent, hardworking, patient and inventive. Thank you Hannah for giving close to a decade of your career to the Institute and the construction industry. The Institute CE, Pamela Bell, says of Hannah’s contribution, “we will all miss Hannah’s energy, vivacious smile and can-do attitude – and wish her well with her next exciting career adventure.”
National Board Chair John Hemi says, ”Hannah has been a fundamental and often critical cog in the machinery of the Institute for nine years. The Board are very sorry to be losing her but we wish her all the very best for the future.”
We know Hannah will be missed both in the Home Team office and by our wider committees and membership. We wish you nothing but the best for your next move Hannah!
Tēnā rawa atu koe. Waimaria!
Thank you so much. Good luck!
