We can all agree that it’s been a difficult year. Again! Despite the COVID-19 interventions at the start and end of 2021, there were some bright spots for the NZIOB: 

• Across the 2020/2021 financial year, the Institute welcomed in excess of 100 new financial members, which is likely the largest intake since the early establishment years of the mid-1980s.
• The Building Legends workshops continued to draw significant industry support, with the new Financial Management workshop being delivered in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. There are three new workshops for 2022, the first being Contracts 101, which sold out its two Auckland workshops in record time. Two additional Building Legends workshops for 2022 are being planned: Design Management and Leadership Training. This will take the Building Legends suite of workshops to five.
• Our Young Professional Advisor group was an ongoing source of suggested initiatives, with a number under development for 2022 delivery: Leadership Training workshops; Pushing the Envelope – an NZIOB Podcast series; Graduate Forums; and subject to sponsorship support, a National Student Awards programme.
• The NZIOB’s two trusts merged during the year, with the separate South Island and North Island focused entities merging to become a single national trust, the NZIOB Charitable Education Trust.
• In October, the NZIOB took over the main workstreams of the disestablished BIM Acceleration Committee, which includes the hosting of the BIMinNZ Conference, the running of the regional BIM Networks, and management of the New Zealand BIM Handbook. 

We also rode our luck, with the 2021 New Zealand Building Industry Awards missing the Auckland lock-down by less than a week, as did the 2021 Northern Region Golf Day. 

2022 gets underway with a high volume of social and educational events being crammed into February and March. The 10 March BIMinNZ Conference in Wellington, along with the 24 February and 24 March Scott Base Redevelopment seminars in Auckland and Christchurch respectively are CPD highlights. Sold-out Auckland and Wellington Golf Days across February, and the traditional NZIOB-Kalmar Fishing Competition (Auckland) on 4 March provide the traditional summer series of social events, supplemented this year by the inaugural NZIOB Charitable Trust Cricket Lunch in Christchurch on 23 March.
