NZIOB recognises member achievements

Two NZIOB members were recently presented with awards for their contribution to the industry. The presentations were made by the Southern Region Chair James Woods on behalf of NZIOB on Thursday, 12 May at the Scott Base Redevelopment event.

The recipients were Anthony Leighs who was made a Fellow of the NZIOB, and Graeme Earl was presented with a Regional Honor Award. While both honours were granted last year, due to COVID, the presentation of the Awards was delayed until this month.


Anthony Leighs, NZIOB Fellow

Anthony is the Founder and previous Managing Director of Leighs Construction.

His abilities have been recognised within the construction industry, and he was the winner of the NZIOB Young Achiever in 2002 and joint winner of the NZIOB Supreme and Innovation Awards in 2005. In 2011, he was awarded a commendation at the EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards.

Anthony was Chair of Master Builders for the period 2007 to 2017, while more recently, he was a participant at the NZIOB Strategy Day in March of this year.


Graeme Earl, Regional Honour Award

Graeme is a Director of Naylor Love Canterbury Ltd, a Past President of the Canterbury Registered Master Builders Association, a former NZIOB Regional Committee Chair, and has been a member of the NZIOB National Board since 2018.

His project skills have been recognised at multiple building industry awards programmes, including winning the Supreme Award at the 2008 NZIOB Awards for Excellence.

Graeme’s extensive industry contribution includes serving as the Canterbury President of the Registered Master Builders Association of NZ (RMBA) from 2008-to 2013; Chair of the Apprentice of the Year Central-Southern Region (RMBA) from 2008 to 2013; NZIOB Regional Committee Chair, 2017 to 2021; and NZIOB National Board member since 2018.
