One Highly Commended and one Excellence award were presented in this category.
The Highly Commended award was presented to James Clark and James Allen of Brosnan Construction for their work on the Lindis Cottages in Otago. The Cottages comprise four luxury accommodation units at an existing luxury fishing lodge set in a pristine environment. Building these Pods in Christchurch and transporting them to the site enabled the lodge to operate without interference from the building site and with minimal impact on the environment. This project faced numerous challenges which Project Manager James Clark and Site Manager James Allen overcame, delivering a unique project to exacting standards.
Kane Blank of Aspec Construction was awarded Excellence for his work on St Peter’s Chapel in Auckland. Kane was also the Category Winner. The project involved the construction of a Chapel for St Peter’s College. Establishing a building site in the middle of a school with 1,300 students posed real challenges, including the careful sequencing of deliveries to ensure the College operated as normally as possible during construction. Despite these challenges, and the discovery of asbestos on site, the project ran smoothly. Kane provided excellent leadership on a project that required a keen sense of buildability to deliver a building that faithfully executed the intention of the original architectural vision. A truly high-quality outcome.
A few words from Kane…
Thank you so much to the NZIOB Committee. I am very humbled to be the recipient of this award, particularly as many of the projects in this category are such deserving winners. A big thanks to the sponsors, and to my wife for her support in allowing me the time needed onsite to complete this project. Thanks also to Aspec, our client St Peter’s College, Sullivan Hall Engineering, and lastly Steven Lawson’s Architects for the great design and hands-on teamwork. This was a particularly challenging project and this award would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the amazing team behind m. Thank you all.
