Nominations for our 2024 NZ Building People Awards and Next Gen Awards will be open 17 April - 29 May. 

The awards evening will take place on 30 August at the Viaduct Event Centre in Tāmaki | Auckland.

NZIOB Staff Changes

Graeme Birkhead (NZIOB Past-President, NZIOB Charitable Education Trust Board member) will be NZIOB’s Acting Chief Executive starting Monday, 9 May and will be in the role until such time as a permanent Chief Executive is in place. NZIOB welcomes Hayley Larsen who has been appointed Operations Manager following the departure of Susan Duley, who has held the role for the past four years, and Raynor Redman will take over as Events Manager from Chloe Stephens when she goes on parental leave.

NZIOB National Student Awards 2022

Entries for the NZIOB National Student Awards are open and close on Tuesday, 31 May 2022. The National Student Awards replace the Institute’s three regional awards with a single programme thereby ensuring that students are recognised by the full construction industry.

NZIOB Charitable Education Trust Rugby Lunch

Save the date – the NZIOB Charitable Education Trust Rugby Lunch has been confirmed for Friday, 15 July in Wellington. The guest speaker for this year is former All Black Captain, Kieran Read. The proceeds of this event go towards a programme of awards and scholarships.

Scott Base Redevelopment Event Reminder

A presentation on the redevelopment of Scott Base, New Zealand’s home in Antarctica, is taking place on Thursday, 12 May. The redevelopment is the largest and most complex project ever undertaken by Antarctica New Zealand. You can either attend the presentation in-person at the Novotel Christchurch or watch the live stream.

But while there is a large amount of work planned, labour and supply constraints are providing a break on the pace of building. And at the same time, population growth has plummeted, according to Westpac Banking Corporation’s Senior Economist, Satish Ranchhod.
