Member Meetups around the motu + more happening

Ka rawe! – it’s mid October already and the pace is quickening as we speed towards the end of the year. September has been a phenomenal month for happenings, from the mask mandate lifting through to a range of events focusing our attention to inclusivity, mental health, and wellness. Perhaps you caught Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (13-19 Sept), or World Suicide Prevention Day (10 Sept) or Mental Health Awareness Week (26 Sept - 2 Oct).

These are timely as the Institute considers its strategic position around innovation, inclusion, and wellness as we move forward to future-proof Member value. I’ve been reading Harold Hillman’s book ‘Em-pa-thy’, about how the Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of social connection and how empathy is a strong skill for leaders who use connection to live and lead with stronger purpose and greater impact. At the Institute of Building, we are working hard to create opportunities for Members to connect in person and online.

Check out the latest Light Lunch webinars on our YouTube channel and keep your eyes peeled for the October launch of Industry Insights – a brand new webinar series where we create opportunities to interact with experts from around the world on topics that matter to Members, plus gain some learning points along the way (CPD + LBP). Please see our impressive and expanding list of upcoming events here.

September also saw the Institute deliver its largest, bestest, and brightest Building Industry Awards night yet. We celebrated alongside 700 of you in an evening of connection, entertainment, and joy. Thanks to all who made the night a great experience – particularly our partner sponsors and all those who entered or who supported the finalists. We look forward to further profiling all the winners over social media and events in coming months – keep your eyes peeled.

This month the Institute’s hard-working voluntary Board is heading into a Strategy Day which will be followed by Member Meetups around the motu where you get to have input (as well as enjoy lunch with some up-and-coming Members and some of our more experienced Members). We look forward to hearing your ideas for future-proofing your Institute. Please do join us by registering at these links:

Please take a couple of minutes to check out this mega-quick 5-question Member Survey to be in to win a range of whacky (possibly delightful, definitely surprising, and potentially financially rewarding) prizes. Your Member Survey is open until 15 October – click here to connect and uncover your surprise prize.

The really BIG reveal for this month is the launch of ‘Building our Digital Community’ – a national conference by the NZ Institute of Building and BIMinNZ – please save the date for 23 March 2023 at Te Papa in Wellington. Watch as we announce the international keynotes, the national experts and the range of fun and engaging face-to-face connection opportunities over the coming weeks and months.
Phew – onwards !
