Southern Region site visit to Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre

On 10 August, NZIOB members from the Southern Region attended a site visit to Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre in Christchurch, hosted by Ōtākaro and CPB. Members got to see inside this exciting key anchor project, and some of the spaces that will be available when it’s all complete – this included the 50-metre competition pool, diving pool, aquatic leisure area, and multi-purpose indoor courts.

Following the NZIOB’s recent election, the NZIOB is delighted to formally introduce John Hemi, the new Chair of the NZIOB National Board. Starting as a Graduate Engineer, John has held Regional and General Management roles in the industry and is currently employed at Te Waihanga (Infracom) as an Advisor on Major Projects and the Construction Sector Accord.

The event was well-attended with more than 80 industry practitioners filling the room. The event concluded with the awarding of an NZIOB Honorary Membership to Peter Fehl.

A panel of industry peers will share stories of Peter; as well as insights into how the construction industry has changed during Peter’s career and their advice on how to survive within this challenging industry. The event will culminate with a presentation to Peter of an NZIOB Honorary Fellowship.
