Meet the women breaking barriers in the New Zealand construction industry

The number of female apprentices working in the male-dominated trades (such as construction) more than doubled this year, from 845 last year to 1785. This has come as part of a broader spike since the Labour-led Government made all apprenticeships free in July this year, part of an effort to stimulate the economy after the Covid-19 outbreak. Meet one all-women building team who are breaking barriers in the building industry.

Southern Region Golf Day

The annual Southern Region Golf Day was held on the 6th of November in Christchurch, with 30 teams and over 100 players in attendance. Blessed with fine weather, the day went off without a hitch, with hole sponsors adding another layer of fun to the day by hosting activities and competitions at their respective holes.

This showcase event is firmly established as one of the standout social fixtures in Wellington’s construction sector calendar, and by the way the night played out, it was clear that everyone who came relished the opportunity to get together and have some fun.

BDO release third annual New Zealand Construction Survey Report

Leading Global Accounting & Advisory Firm BDO have released their third annual New Zealand Construction Survey Report. The Survey is divided into two parts: the state of the sector prior to the impact of Covid-19; and the initial consequences of and responses to the impact of COVID-19. After a tumultuous year, the Survey Report shows a ‘game of halves’ for the industry, with COVID-19 being the ‘half-time’ whistle.
