BDO release third annual New Zealand Construction Survey Report

Posted on Friday 20 November, 2020

Leading Global Accounting & Advisory Firm BDO have released their third annual New Zealand Construction Survey Report. The Survey is divided into two parts: the state of the sector prior to the impact of Covid-19; and the initial consequences of and responses to the impact of COVID-19. After a tumultuous year, the Survey Report shows a ‘game of halves’ for the industry, with COVID-19 being the ‘half-time’ whistle.

Otago construction labour shortage

Posted on Friday 20 November, 2020

A new study commissioned by the Ministry of Social Development (MSD), the Dunedin City Council and consultancy firm, Aukaha, estimates that an extra 1000 construction workers will be required in the Otago region for each of the next ten years. Driving that demand is in excess of 100 major construction projects, foremost of which is the new $1.4 billion Dunedin Hospital – billed as one of the largest vertical infrastructure projects that has ever been undertaken in New Zealand.

Oh, what a night!

Posted on Friday 06 November, 2020

The 2020 edition of the NZIOB’s annual awards night was unlike any of the Institute’s previous 26 annual awards gala dinners. Due to COVID-19, the evening programme was held simultaneously across three venues (Cordis, Auckland; Te Papa, Wellington; Christchurch Townhall), as well as being live-streamed for free.

Posted on Friday 06 November, 2020

The first award of the evening, the prestigious NZIOB Medal, was awarded to Samir Govind for his commitment to the on-going evolution of the Institute, and for being an influential and respected presence in the New Zealand building industry.
